How image compression works
Compression removes detail that is hard to see. Phone photos are often several megabytes and can usually be made much smaller with no visible difference.
If you set a maximum size, Vertozi finds the highest quality that fits. If it still doesn’t fit, the image dimensions are reduced step by step.
When should you compress an image?
- A website or form limits uploads to a few hundred KB.
- You want photos to load faster on your website.

How do I reduce a photo to 100 KB?
Type 100 in “Max size”. Vertozi adjusts the quality and, if needed, the dimensions until the file fits.
Can I compress PNG files?
Yes, but PNG has no quality setting. To make a PNG much smaller, reduce its width or choose JPG or WEBP as the output format.
What happens to photo metadata?
When an image is re-compressed, camera metadata such as GPS location is removed.
